Where to find official SHSAT practice tests
Short answer
The official SHSAT practice tests are on the NYC SHSAT Portal, which has four full-length online practice tests that match the real exam and a Student Readiness Tool.
The best practice tests are the official ones. The NYC SHSAT Portal at nycshsat.myassessmentsupport.com has:
- four full-length online practice tests that match the real exam
- a Student Readiness Tool
Because the fall 2026 SHSAT is taken on a computer, practicing online in the same format is the closest you can get to test day. Each test has two sections of 50 questions, English Language Arts and Math.
The official guide
The official guide is the NYC Guide to the SHSAT for 2027 Admissions, linked from the Office of Assessment page. The Specialized High Schools enrollment page still says the fall 2026 guide is “still in development”, but the Office of Assessment page already links the 2027-admissions guide.
For 9th graders
The guide includes separate Grade 9 sample questions. The Grade 9 test’s math is based on standards through grade 8, one grade higher than the Grade 8 test, so 9th graders should practice with those samples. See Can 9th graders take the SHSAT?
