How many times can you take the ISEE?
Short answer
Your child can take the ISEE once per testing season, so up to three times a year. The seasons are Fall (August to November), Winter (December to March) and Spring/Summer (April to July).
The ISEE year is split into three testing seasons, and your child can test once in each.
The three ISEE testing seasons
| Season | Months |
|---|---|
| Fall | August, September, October, November |
| Winter | December, January, February, March |
| Spring/Summer | April, May, June, July |
A retest example: a student who takes the ISEE in September has used the Fall season, so the next chance is in December, at the start of the Winter season. Testing in November and again in December is allowed, because those dates fall in different seasons.
How fast scores come back
| How your child tested | Scores usually ready |
|---|---|
| Online | 3–5 days after the test |
| Paper, grades 5–12 | 5–10 days after the test |
| Paper, grades 2–4 | 7–14 days after the test |
Scores go automatically to the schools you choose. You can add schools later for free, but you can only remove a school before the test starts.
What each attempt costs
Each test has its own fee. For the Lower, Middle and Upper levels, 2026–27 fees range from $170 at a school to $255 for individual testing at a testing office; ISEE-run at-home testing costs $250. The ISEE can be taken at home online, at a school or testing office on paper or online, or online at a Prometric center for grades 5–12.
